The School

Located in Alice Springs, capital of Outback Australia, St Philip's is a Uniting Church co-educational Boarding and Day School for students in Years 7 - 12. With strong academic excellence and a widely accredited Outdoor Education and Performing Arts program, St Philip's College provides opportunities that will endeavour to develop their students' individuality and strengthen their leadership skills.

The Project

During two days of intensive workshops, local poet Leni Shilton worked with over 300 students at St Philip's College in Alice Springs. Students from Years 7, 8 and 9 took part in multimodal poetry workshops connected to the theme of The Red Room Company's project, The Disappearing. Beginning with Notice poems and Erasure poems (read Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 Erasure poems here), Leni led students in poetry writing activities that 'disappeared' letters to develop different forms of writing that are now published on The Disappearing app (read Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 poems here).

Leni Shilton also composed two poems for the school, 'Into country in our minds with no 'e'' and 'Moments by dry sand', available on the app and the Red Room website (or view above in playlist).
