The Disappearing, 2014
Yirara College of the Finke River Mission is a boarding school for Indigenous students 12 years and older from remote communities. Yirara operates under the auspices of Finke River Mission which is the mission arm of the Lutheran Church in Central Australia. The site covers 32 hectares including school buildings, dormitories for students, excellent sporting facilities, some staff accommodation and bush camping areas.

Celebrated Alice Springs poet Laurie May joined The Red Room Company to deliver three intensive poetry workshop at Yirara College from 29th October to 12th November. Laurie May led the students in various poetry writing exercises inspired by The Disappearing learning resource.
From Alice Springs, Laurie May is a resistance poet challenging societal norms and perspectives on poverty. Known for her clever, often humorous wordplay and pointed politics of identity themes. Laurie May is a touring poet working in schools and performing at festivals around the country, encouraging people everywhere to write their story, say what they mean and say it with passion. Drawing on her life experiences and desolate surrounding Laurie's work finds beauty in unexpected places.
