The Red Room Company is working with Art Space Studio in Corrimal to present a school holiday workshop on poetry and song writing. Young performance poet Lorin Elizabeth will work with musician Penny Hartgerink on a poetry/song writing session for kids aged 8-12 years. What happens when a young Australian composer and a renowned instrumentalist collaborate with a page poet, a performance poet and a visual poet? This unique new Australian work showcases the intersections and counterpoints between words and music.
Sunday November 2 at 2pm and 5pm. Giant Dwarf Theatre, Surry Hills.

2014 Tennant Creek Writers' Camp

The 2014 Tennant Creek Writers' Camp runs from October 21 to 24 and The Red Room Company has partnered with the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation to send poets Lional Fogarty and Luka Lesson to run poetry workshops with young people from Borroloola, Elliott and Tennant Creek.
The workshops involve around 100 students from years 5-11 with the majority of workshops held at Tennant Creek High School. During the week students engage with writers from different backgrounds and disciplines to share stories and develop their writing skills.
We are thrilled to be a part of this important and unique event.
Lorna Munro at Bundanon Trust, 2014

As part of a special collaboration with Bundanon Trust, poet Lorna Munro will undergo a two-week residency, working with students from Shoalhaven, Bombaderry, and Nowra High Schools. Students will explore different sites at Bundanon, composing and publishing poems that respond to themes of The Disappearing that will enetually be published on the app.
This is Red Room Education's third consecutive year working with Bundanon Trust - check out their poems from last year's workshop with Tim Sinclair here.
Poetry Object Exhibition

The culmination of our national student poetry competition, the Poetry Object Exhibition opens at Liverpool Library on November 13. Over 120 schools and 1500 student and teacher poems from around Australia entered the competition and the 12 shortlisted poems will be on display as well as poetry and illustrations created at the recent workshops at Casula Powerhouse.
