Michael Giacometti is the author of 'Portraits of Country' – a collection of haiku – and the short story collection 'My Life & Other Fictions' (Spineless Wonders).

He has variously worked as a computer programmer, outdoor educator, trekking guide, Indigenous ranger coordinator, bus driver, supermarket shelf-stacker, art production manager, mineral surveyor, and retail sales manager. In 2008 he became the first (and only) person to walk across the Simpson Desert, solo and unassisted, from east to west.

He has twice won the Northern Territory Literary Award for Poetry, and has contributed to several Red Room Company projects. His writing has featured in 'Meanjin', 'Island', and 'Cordite', and anthologised in 'Australian Poetry Anthology vol. 7',  'Cracking the Spine: ten short Australian stories and how they were written' (Spineless Wonders), 'Bruno's Song and other stories from the Northern Territory' (NT Writers' Centre), and 'How to look after your poet in the event of a cyclone' (NT Writers’ Centre).

Formerly of Alice Springs for 12 years, he now resides in northern Tasmania with his partner and camp dog.
