"A poem... can be a message in a bottle, sent out in the—not always greatly hopeful—belief that somewhere and sometime it could wash up on land, on heartland perhaps."
- Paul Celan, poet

The Sea Things learning resource was piloted in 2011, and is our first resource to be designed for both primary and secondary students. The Sea Things project took place in 2009, and involved the commissioning of poems related to the sea and our relationship with it. These poems were then loaded into a duffle bag and transported around Australia on a number of different boats. The duffle bag made various stops along the way to pick up poems and poetic paraphernalia from people all over the country.

The Sea Things learning resource makes use of the play on words 'Sea Things/See Things', by encouraging students to reflect not just on their relationship with the sea, but also with different ways of seeing things. They learn to use poetry to see the familiar in new ways, as well as reimagining their view of poetry through exposure to new poetic forms.
