Podcasting
—————————————————-
What is a podcast/RSS feed?
—————————————————-
It’s a new way that allows us at the Red Room Company to automatically send you some of our radio programming to your portable device. A Podcast can also be referred to as an RSS feed, Atom Feed, Vodcast as well as a number of other names. You can subscribe to the podcast by downloading a small piece of software known as an aggregator, sometimes called a podcatcher or podcast receiver, that will manages all of your podcast subscriptions.

When you’re connected to the internet, the software searches for the latest updated edition of our program on the website, and will download it to a folder on your computer, ready for you to play it at your leisure. This means that you don’t have to manually search for new programs to download on this website. It happens automatically once you’ve subscribed!

At present the picture show audio materials are all available for immediate download.

Video podcasting
—————————————————-

Video podcasting (vod/vidcasting) is a way to distribute video files over the internet, using either an RSS or Atom feed, for playback on your mobile device or computer.

You can subscribe to our future video podcasting and automatically receive each episode as it becomes available. Simply copy and paste the relevant link into your video podcasting software using a ‘subscribe’ option or where it says to “add feed manually”.

Subscribing to these video podcasts may not be suitable for people on internet plans with limited data usage, as episodes can be as large as 30Mb or more.

Handy hints
—————————————————-

Our material is available in three formats: MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 (MP3), Quicktime (MOV) and Windows Media Video 9 (WMV).

The Windows Media Video might be appropriate for Windows users with podcast software such as FeedReader installed. Some portable media players and PDAs also support the WMV format.

If you use iTunes, and the video iPod try the Quicktime (MOV) version.

While these files can also be viewed on your computer with the right software, they have been optimized for playback on portable devices
