Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College is an independent Catholic secondary school for girls, Years 7 to 12, located in North Sydney. As an integral part of Year 7 and continuing into the following years, the College has a strong emphasis on the development of advanced thinking, co-operative learning, research skills and metacognition for all students, regardless of their ability. These skills help students understand their own learning and assist in the development of independent study.
Poet Lorin Elizabeth guided students through a tailored 2 hour workshop exploring the creative process, and poetic writing. With Lorin, students created original pieces of poetry, from drafting through to editing and performance. These poems will also be recorded for publication for Monte Magazine.
Lorin Elizabeth is a spoken word poet, organiser and teaching artist from Wollongong, who co-founded Enough Said Poetry Slam and is published in Going Down Swinging’s audio anthology.
She has toured the USA poetry slam circuit, featured at the Women of the World Poetry Slam in Albuquerque, NM and self-published an EP called Poems.
In 2017, Lorin featured at Canberra’s Noted Festival, hosted The Rumble Youth Slam at Sydney Writers’ Festival and was a workshop facilitator and panelist for The Stella Prize’s Girls Write Up program in Canberra, Sydney and Wodonga.
