The School

The Scots College is one of the oldest and most reputable boys' schools in Australia. Based in Sydney, NSW Scots is a non-selective Presbyterian GPS boys' school for day and Boarding students. Our workshops will be held at their Glengarry outdoor education campus

The Project

Australian slam poets Lorin Elizabeth and Zohab Zee Khan visited 100 Year 9 students from The Scots College (Glengarry) in Kangaroo Valley, NSW. The poets guided the students through different exercises from The Disappearing learning resource in an intensive two-day workshop, and encouraged students to share their poems in an Inter-dorm Poetry Slam.

The Poet

Lorin Elizabeth

Lorin Elizabeth is a spoken word poet from Thirroul who co-founded the Enough Said poetry slam in Wollongong and is currently celebrating the release of her first EP Poems.

She spent 2015 living in Brooklyn, NY, performing at events like the Women of the World Poetry Slam, opening for Candy Royalle’s Butch Priestess International Tour and trying to keep her pothos plant Tiffani alive.

Lorin writes with a mix of rhyme and magic realism, and performs with a raw, authentic style. Her content covers social injustice, travel, love, the female experience... and food.

In 2014, she was a Stand Tall Speak Out youth slam mentor across an amazing six-week program. “Teaching Artist” is her favourite hat and she loves the way spoken word breaks down barriers between young people and poetry.

Lorin recently arrived home after her Finding Crossroads USA tour with Rachel Calleja, and has since started knitting a fairy penguin.
