Stanmore Public School, NSW
Poetry Object, 2013
Stanmore Public School, NSW, is a unique and vibrant community where learning and relationships are at the centre of school life. The school offers a variety of programs and opportunities to enrich the school experience.
Australian poet Kate Middleton lead a poetry workshop at Stanmore Public School, based on The Poetry Object learning resources. In 2012, Stanmore student, Andre Issa, won The Poetry Object prize, which included this workshop for his school community.
Students first completed a mind-map of adjectives to describe their objects. They then went on to detail what makes their object a special one, composing similes and metaphors to colourfully portray their talismans. After editing and tweaking these sections, the students' poems were submitted to The Poetry Obejct 2013 student writing project, and are now published in an online gallery on The Red Room Company's website.

From September 2011-September 2012 she was the inaugural Sydney City Poet. Her second collection, Ephemeral Waters, was published by Giramondo in 2013.
