Sorry for the pain

By Oliver S.

I live in the footsteps of the elders
My blood runs thick through my veins
From my mother and father
Like the creeks and the rivers of my land
Flowing through and passing down
Generation to generation
So I hope my kids will too
And understand that being Aboriginal
Will always stay true
So I have to cherish the time I have
And live and love life how it is
I haven’t seen home for a month
And it doesn’t feel the same
Without the people I love and miss the most
So my mistakes have to change
I need my Mum and girlfriend
To understand I’m sorry for all the pain
I have put them through
But most of all I know
They miss me too
