CJ Bowerbird is a spoken word artist and physical performer. Winner of the 2012 Australian Poetry Slam, CJ explores what it is to be human, writing about things we have lost, things we never had and things that are slipping through our fingers. CJ’s poetry has been called ‘earnest’ and ‘moments of heartfelt tragedy combined with raw humour’.

His practice ranges from solo shows to interdisciplinary collaborations. He particularly enjoys working with other artists to tell multi-sensory stories. In 2018, CJ released Beyond This Blue, a recording of the show he wrote and performed with the Downfall Choir for the 2017 National Folk Festival.

CJ has been a featured performer at the Bookworm International Literary Festival in China, Woodford Folk Festival in Australia and the Ubud Writers and Readers Festival in Indonesia. He is a two-time TEDx Canberra speaker and combines words with clumsy movement as part of the Sound & Fury Ensemble.
