The Long Day

The long day begins with the harsh
sounds of bouncing basketballs
Then I put my headphones in
I hear teachers demanding our work that I
only completed the night before
I get to my state trials and feel the sweat
dripping down my face as I stand in fear
wondering if I will make it
Then I put my headphones in
I put my headphones in and my mind
comes alive with ideas of what I could
have done better during the day’s
activities
Then I take my headphones out and I’m
faced with reality.
