curlews left for the heavens
as magpies arrived
sunshine turned
the tree leaves red

what did we unlock
that day?

~ from 'The Bird Cage' by Ali Cobby Eckermann

Windham-Campbell Award winner and Red Room Poetry Fellow, Ali Cobby Eckermann led poetry workshops at Bundanon Trust as poet-in-residence from August 14-16, 2017.
