Gungurru - Silver Princess
A habit of weeping, now common
throughout the suburbs
loitering in groups of three,
A mob of princesses hanging
on the corner, large pendulous
urn shaped fruit, showy white
waxy bloom copping whistles,
minni-ritchie bark peeling
in red strips like sunburnt skin.
They are out of their comfort zone,
flailing in limestone on Kaata Garup,
making flowers out of rain and river clouds
long drooping arms gathering sky;
like ENTS they are suddenly everywhere
a decorative garden plant!
When I trace their origins
I find them rare and endangered
out in the granite country.
On the blank white space of the map
marked by two red wobbly exclamation
marks and one final red splodge.
