The students of the Abbotsford Creative Writing Group put together this poetry installation. As we considered possible objects to focus our poetry writing on, we used the fact that many of the members in our group had been lucky to have recently returned from trips all over the globe. We decided to use this as a stimulus for our writing and create an installation about souvenirs.

Souvenirs often hold a special place in the hearts of travellers, as they can bring back memories that can be cherished forever. We learnt that the word souvenir comes from the Latin word “subvenire” meaning to ‘come to mind’ and the French word “souvenir” meaning ‘to remember’.

Being a part of this project definitely brought back some great memories for me personally. It has also been both an educational and enjoyable process for me. Writing poetry from our own points of interest and personal experiences ensured we were all engaged in the tasks and we could all contribute in our own unique ways.

We are all very proud of Abbotsford Public School’s 'Eiffel Tower'. We hope you enjoy reading about our travelling adventures!
